Hi, I’m Jessica.

I am an ice-cream-eating, wine-sipping professional blogger, passionate about helping women create the business of their dreams. This blog is for creative boss babes who want to build a successful blog but aren’t sure where to start or what they’re doing wrong.

Have you ever…

  • wished you could work from home doing something you love?
  • wondered what the secret is to making money from a blog?
  • compared yourself to successful bloggers and felt depressed and defeated?
  • thought you have nothing new to add to the blogging world?
  • felt like maybe blogging just isn’t for you?

If these are things you’ve struggled with, you’re in the right place! I know what it feels like because I’ve BEEN THERE. Girl, let me tell you. I have been right where you are. And not too long ago either.

For years I toyed with the idea of starting a blog. But as soon as those thoughts would come, they were quickly chased away by bully thoughts. You know the ones. They usually go something like this:

“Oh please. Who would read it anyway.”

“A blog. Right. Like you can actually make money from that.”

or my favorite…

“Ha! How long will that last? 6 months?”

One day I decided enough was enough. A simple ad showed up in my Facebook feed (it was actually for this free email course) and I signed up. That led to one of the most exciting decisions I’ve ever made and this blog was born. Sure, I still have those same doubts sometimes and you will too. The important thing is that you don’t let your doubts call the shots.

What led me to this place

I was tired of living like I had no purpose. Creativity was pushing against my pores but I had nothing to pour it into. I wanted to inspire my children and to show my daughter what it looks like for a woman to lead a successful career and still be home with her kids.

The Vanilla Muse was created out of a desire to contribute. My passion is for other women to see that they have something to give to the world and to help them do that. I believe in simplicity, authenticity, and intentionality.

To me, running a successful blog is not about being the first one to an idea or about having the “right” personality. It’s about finding the right fit for you, determining exactly who you will help, and setting and taking the exact steps to connect with them.

To build a successful blog, you need a success plan. And that’s what I’m here for.

What I did before blogging

When you grow up in an entrepreneur family, starting a business just gets in your blood. When I was 15, I started a photography business with a borrowed camera and about $200. While it didn’t last long, it taught me some important things about branding and marketing.

After high school, I dabbled in graphic design and retail management before again starting my own business. When my daughter was 2 months old, I launched an online clothing shop, selling vintage kids clothes on Instagram and Etsy. This taught me more about creating a marketing strategy and the importance of a community of support. I even published an ebook teaching other sellers what I had learned.

After that, I joined a network marketing company where I honed my marketing skills even more through branding and social media. I attracted attention from some of the biggest names in the company and grew my Facebook account from 300 to 1,000 within a few months.

When I say I’ve done it all, I really have done it all. No matter where you’re at on your journey, know that I’ve walked right where you’re walking. And my mission is to help you reach the top.

Here’s what you can expect

  • Value

My mantra is “quality over quantity” and my goal is to provide you with as much value as possible. You can expect a power-packed post every Monday that will always give you something you can implement with your own blog, whether that’s a new traffic strategy, a study on how I use Pinterest to work for me, or help finding your own target audience.

  • Simplicity

Complicated stuff overwhelms me. I named my blog The Vanilla Muse because vanilla is simple. When you read something I write, I want it to be an “aha” moment for you, for it to finally click into place. That’s why you’ll find my EXACT strategies here, topics broken down into easy steps, and clear instructions on how to do something.

  • Encouragement

Above all, I want this site to be a place you can come to when you need a pick-me-up. I love encouraging women to chase their dreams and be everything they were designed to be. I write from a place of positivity because I truly believe that if you want this badly enough and are willing to work for it, nothing will stop you.

I don’t claim to have all the answers (I’m still learning too!) but I’ll teach you what has and hasn’t worked for me.

Does this sound like something you could use?

If so, I think we are destined to be biz besties! While I provide all of that stuff right here on the blog, I’ll let you in on a secret: my subscribers are actually getting a little more than that. I like to increase the dosage of value and encouragement for them by about 25%. AND they are getting access to exclusive things like my income reports and discounts.
